HOSPEEM signs the updated Multi-Sectoral Guidelines to Prevent and Tackle Third-Party Violence and Harassment

The European sectoral social partners for Local and Regional Governments, Hospitals and healthcare, Education, Hotels, restaurants and cafés (Hospitality), and Central Governments signed the updated European Multi-sectoral Guidelines to Prevent and Tackle Third-Party Violence and Harassment Related to Work in Brussels, on 06 May 2025. This follows a six-month round of negotiations in 2024 with the financial support of the European Commission.
Marta Branca, Secretary General of HOSPEEM, said:
“Updating the guidelines on preventing third-party violence and harassment, reflecting how technology has progressed since the first guidelines as well as introducing a gender-responsive approach, is an important moment for us as social partners in the hospital and healthcare sector. It reflects our shared commitment with trade unions to create safe and supportive working environments.”

Save the Date: Final Conference Finance4EPSR

Together with SGI Europe and HEAG Holding AG, HOSPEEM has been working on the EU-funded project “Finance for the European Pillar of Social Rights”. Following the input of the three workshops on 17 January 2025, where representatives of healthcare and hospitals, energy, water, transport and housing sectors explore sustainable financing and social taxonomy, you are now invited to join the Final Project Conference on 11 June in Brussels.

HOSPEEM and EPSU start joint project on staff shortages and future-proofing skills

HOSPEEM-EPSU joint EU-funded project “Tackling Staff Shortages and Ensuring Future-Proofing Skills in Health” was launched on 1 April 2025. The 24-months project aims to look at the different dimensions of labour and skills shortages in the European hospital and healthcare sector.
Through a series of six workshops, the project will explore key issues such as ageing healthcare workforce, intra-EU mobility, work-life balance, mental health, temporary work agencies, and future-proofing skills.

Call for Tender: External Expertise for the joint social partners' project

Deadline: 16 May 2025

The selected consultant(s) will be responsible for attending these workshops, gathering information on the challenges and potential solutions, and preparing comprehensive reports summarising the discussions. Each report should be at least five pages in English, focusing on the main points of discussion and identifying key challenges and solutions.
Interested parties must submit their proposals by 16 May 2025. Submissions should include a technical proposal detailing relevant professional experience, a detailed CV, and a financial proposal. Offers must be sent electronically to acociancich@epsu.org.

HOSPEEM participates in Social Partner Consultations of European Commission

Following the publication of the European Commission Work Programme for 2025, “Moving Forward Together: A Bolder, Simpler, Faster Europe”, several initiatives relevant for Social Partners have been kicked off. HOSPEEM participated in particular in the hearing on the Union of Skills (03.02.2025) and the kick-off meeting (16.04.2025) and the dedicated hearing (05.05.2025) on the Quality Jobs Roadmap.

Overview of 2024: HOSPEEM Activity Report

Highlighting a year of impactful initiatives and policy engagement in the European healthcare sector, HOSPEEM is happy to present its 2024 Activity Report.
Over the past year, HOSPEEM concluded negotiations to update the European Multisectoral Social Partners Guidelines to prevent and tackle third-party violence and harassment related to work. HOSPEEM was also actively engaged in high-level discussions on the future of the European Health Union during the Belgian Council Presidency.
The report provides a detailed overview of these and many other activities, showcasing HOSPEEM’s commitment to improving working conditions, strengthening social dialogue and shaping the future of hospital and health care sector in Europe.

European Parliament debates address urgent labour shortages and ensure quality jobs in the health care sector

Facing a shortage of 1.2 million healthcare workers and a lack of skills during the green and digital transformation, Commissioner Mînzatu addressed the Plenary of the European Parliament on the matter of urgent labour shortages and ensure quality jobs in the health care sector. She stressed the need for gender inclusion, upskilling, better conditions, fair mobility, and global talent attraction, and highlighted the upcoming Quality Jobs Roadmap.
